Now that we are in the midst of the end of the year holidays, I am certain many of us are thinking of gingerbread, peppermint, hot chocolate, and cookies.  But, how many of us are thinking about innovations as well?

I can assure you that many innovations are developed to solve holiday-specific problems.

Don’t believe me?  How about these examples:

US Patent No. 4,474,302 – A Safety Champaign Cork.  Because come on.  The last thing you want to do is celebrate the start of the new year with a trip to the emergency room.  (And we won’t mention the embarrassment of explaining a cork-related injury!)

US Patent No. 7,028,968 – Rotating Christmas Tree Stand.  I have to admit, I do own and use one of these.  The one drawback is that you can’t hide that bare spot of the tree towards the corner anymore.

US Patent No. 7,909,674 – Illuminated Dreidel.  This definitely helps to find the dreidel when it spins off the table and goes under the sofa.

US Patent No. 7,102,301 – Year-round Decorative Lights with Selectable Holiday Color Schemes.  This is MY sort of holiday decorating.  Set it up once, and it works for EVERY holiday.

As you enjoy the upcoming holiday season, be sure to keep your eyes, ears, and mind open to the possible innovations around you.  Inspiration and stimulus for innovations are clearly all around us to solve our seemingly mundane holiday problems as well as the bigger issues you may be dealing with in your own organization.

Happy Innovating!!!!
