From Registration to Certification

Pre-Work Digital Classes
Before the September session, you'll work through 100+ short videos (about 7 minutes each) covering the sub-skills in the Innovation Engineering body of knowledge. They're yours to revisit any time you're applying the skills back at work.

3-Day In-Person Training
September 22–24, with up to 24 participants. Over 90% of the week is hands-on lab work, where you apply what you learned in the digital classes to a real case, not a hypothetical one.

Practical Application
Guided by your instructors, you'll apply the system to real work of your choosing, building a portfolio that proves you can actually use what you learned.

Certification
Certification requires a 100% grade on all class assignments (unlimited resubmissions, the goal is mastery, not failure), application of your learning to real work graded by your certification coach, and your coach's personal written recommendation. You'll have up to 12 months to complete it.

Innovation Engineering exists because Doug Hall shipped a record number of innovations at Procter & Gamble using a systems approach inspired by Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the same thinking behind Lean and Six Sigma. He founded Eureka! Ranch in 1986 to bring that approach to other companies. By the early 2000s, it was clear that great ideas were dying, not from bad ideas, but from organizations that had no system to carry them to market. That gap led to a sabbatical at the University of Maine and the creation of Innovation Engineering: 48 documented skills for creating, communicating, and commercializing meaningfully unique ideas, vetted through academic peer review and tested inside some of the world's most demanding organizations, including Walt Disney, Nike, Pepsi-Cola, American Express, Procter & Gamble, and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

How long does it take to complete?
On average, the full course takes about 70 to 80 hours of work, including the pre-work digital classes, the 3-day in-person session, and your certification project.
What are the requirements to enroll?
Innovation Engineering Fundamentals is a required prerequisite. There's no minimum level of formal education or business experience required beyond that, just access to the internet and a phone, tablet, or computer.
